Blog views The Demonic spirit of Divination (The Spirit of Python) We first encounter the python spirit in (Acts 16: 16.) In this chapter, the Apostle Paul is being harassed by a young slave girl with a spirit of divination. She has the ability to foretell the future and is earning lots of money for her masters. When Paul finally commands the spirit of divination to come out of her, she loses her power to predict the future and makes her masters angry because she can no longer make them rich. The word divination in this verse comes from the Greek word Πύθων, or puthon, which means python. Hence, the name of the spirit. The python spirit’s agenda is to make us ineffective in the Kingdom of God. The python spirit’s ultimate goal is to stop us from achieving what God has purposed for us. “And if there be a man or a woman in whom is a spirit of Python or of divination, they shall certainly be put to death: they shall stone them with stones; their blood is upon them.” Leviticus 20:27 What is the Python Spirit ? It is a demonic spirit - it is often associated with the serpent spirit called nahash. It operates through New Age, channeling, occultism, psychics and fortune-telling. Sins of The Python Spirit All these sins can open the doors for the spirit of python. Witchcraft, Divination, Occultism, Necromancy, Sorcery, Gossip, Slander, Rage, Pornography, Sexual perversion, Bitterness, Unforgiveness, False Accusation. What does the Bible say about Divination? The word divination comes from the Latin divinare, meaning “to foresee” or “to be inspired by a god.” To practice divination is to uncover hidden knowledge by supernatural means. It is associated with the occult and involves fortune-telling or soothsaying, as it used to be called. From ancient times, people have used divination to gain knowledge of the future or as a way to make money. The practice continues as those who claim supernatural insight read palms, tea leaves, tarot cards, star charts, and more.. God tells us His view of divination in Deuteronomy 18:10: “There shall not be found among you . . . anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens. ” First Samuel 15:23 compares rebellion to the “sin of divination.” Practicing divination is listed as one of the reasons for Israel’s exile (2 Kings 17:17). Jeremiah 14:14 spoke of the false prophets of the time, saying, “They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds". So, compared to God’s truth, divination is false, deceitful, and worthless. As Luke traveled with Paul and Silas in the city of Philippi, he recorded an encounter with a diviner: “We were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling” (Acts 16:16). The girl’s ability to penetrate mysteries was due to a demon that controlled her. Her masters received “much gain” from their slave.Paul eventually exorcised the demon (verse 18), freeing the girl from her spiritual bondage and angering the slave owners (verse 19). Divination in any form is sin. It is not harmless entertainment or an alternate source of wisdom. Christians should avoid any practice related to divination, including fortune-telling, astrology, witchcraft, tarot cards, necromancy, and spell-casting. The spirit world is real, but it is not innocent. According to Scripture, those spirits are not angels. Christians need not fear the demonic spirits involved in divination; neither should they seek wisdom from them. Symptoms Christains get from the Python spirit Python spirit is very controlling and wants to dominate a person in order to dry and deaden them out spiritually. This demonic spirit waits for opportune times to destroy God’s people through false burdens, worshipping idols, and iniquities of the heart. People can be oppressed by the python spirit and eventually experience a spiritual and natural death if allowed. The python spirit, especially in church settings, likes to block people from truly and freely praising God to receive breakthroughs, miracles, and deliverance from yokes of bondage. Feeling discouraged, defeated, and depressed. Things seem hopeless, overwhelming, and burdensome, you feel an overall sense of disappointment, struggle with a lack of peace and feeling stress, and feel like giving up. Loss of spiritual desire. Difficulty with prayer life, staying connected to other Christians, and maintaining your ministry or work with God. Physical fatigue and/or malaise. Feeling drained and lacking energy. No motivation. Thinking about going back to your old lifestyle. The enemy places thoughts in your mind about going back toward your old life rather that moving forward with faith in God. He will lie to you and tempt you with the very things you have been delivered from. Doubting God’s goodness Struggling with trusting God to come through for you. You may even feel anger towards God for “letting you down.” Believing that God is mad at you and punishing you. Negative, disturbing thought life. The enemy attacks your mind, and the mind is the battlefield. You may be wrestling with anxious, fearful, or worrisome thoughts. Many times people will erroneously think that nobody cares about them. Feelings of rejection, belonging and loneliness seem to be heightened. You feel no one truly understands you, and do not feel like you belong anywhere. Confusion over what you believe. Is Jesus really for me? Is Jesus the only way? These and other confusing thoughts are spiritual attacks.
These are some of the Signs the spirit of divination is operating in a persons life. Double-Mindedness, Gets easily hurt or offended, Has trouble with relationships and thrives in constant drama and strife. Crying, weeping a lot and using guilt to manipulate you. When you try to use boundaries with them they get offended. Selling spiritual gifts. For example, a person with a python spirit may charge people to give them a word of Prophecy or Deliverance, which is not biblical. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. You have received without payment, so give without payment.
